Susan Licher
Senior Scientist

Susan Licher is a Senior Scientist and Project Manager who specializes in aquifer protection, geomorphology, water supply planning, reservoir sedimentation, and watershed hydrology. Her technical skills include resource planning, geospatial investigations and surface water modeling. Susan has five years of experience in resource planning, field and laboratory research, geospatial analysis, and environmental monitoring.

Susan graduated from Southwest Missouri State University with a B.S. in Environmental Geography and a M.S. in Resource Planning. While at Southwest Missouri State University, her thesis work involved analyzing the sedimentation and contamination history of a small reservoir. She was also involved in collecting water-quality samples, coordinating the Geomorphology Research Laboratory, and studying the geomorphology of Ozark streams. After completing her degrees, she worked at the USGS. Here Ms. Licher worked on the data collection, calibration, and validation of an HSPF watershed model used to explore the quantity and timing of water under different reservoir development scenarios. Susan also conducted field work, including discharge measurements and topographical surveying, and assisted with GIS projects and publication preparation.

Since being with WHPA, Ms. Licher leads discussions in community planning teams who are helping protect watersheds and drinking water aquifers. She has worked extensively with aquifer and wellhead protection stakeholders to gain consensus and establish plans for protecting the drinking water supply. Susan has also worked on water demand forecasting, water conservation planning projects, and recharge estimation. Susan routinely provides project support through geospatial analysis and graphical production for several different projects.
